Why does downtowns Delphi matter, and how can Main Street help?

As it is summarized in our mission statement, Delphi Main Street's purpose is:
  • To educate the citizens of the importance of the downtown to the community
  • To take remedial actions to eliminate the physical, economic, and social causes of deterioration which threaten the future of Delphi's downtown
  • To lessen the burden of government by providing an organization, adequately funded and staffed, to resolve downtown problems and issues
  • To actively participate in and employ the National Trust for Historic Preservation's Main Street Program four point approach through the Indiana Main Street Program, including organization, promotion, design and economic restructuring
  • To promote current business retention and provide stimulus for new business and employment opportunities in the downtown
  • To promote the preservation of the many historically significant structures in the downtown and to educate the citizens of the importance and benefits of historic preservations
  • To promote ways to improve the overall appearance of downtown
